From this day forward I will answer only to the name, “Janky The Little Rat”!
I dispatched my proctologist out to Tomorrow Bookstore on Mass Ave. in Indy this past Sunday (8/11) to procure an autograph from cartoonist/author/former lawyer/friend of Bill Watterson, Stephan Pastis, whose comic strip, Pearls Before Swine, has a character named, Rat, that I’m particularly fond of. Here’s the exchange my proctologist had with Mr. Pastis upon signing my beloved copy of, “I’m Only In This For Me”:
SP: Who should I make this out to?
Proc: Janky Le Rat
SP: Who?
Proc: Janky Le Rat
SP: Janky? How do you spell it? (Starts writing J and an A) J….A…
Proc: J-A-N-K-Y
SP: …N…K…Y
Proc: Le Rat
SP: The?
Proc: Le…Rat (Writes “the”)
S: The…
Proc: Uh…sure…why not. (Writes “Little Rat” and draws his character, Rat)
Proc: (Pulls out a copy of “Rat Songs Vol. 1” and shows it to Pastis) This is Janky here. He’s a rat…puppet.
SP: (looks at cover) Ah, cool! (Proc doesn’t pass along the CD to Pastis)
Proc: Thanks, Stephan.
SP: Thank you for coming out!
